Shake It Like A...

I'm probably late on this but I just discovered Poladroid. It doesn't quite capture all the character and appeal of the real thing but it's a fun little program that can add an "artsy" touch to your jpegs. It's not a replacement by any means but it'll have to do until I get a Polaroid or an Instax. Download it for free!

It Be The Wu

Check out the cover art for the Raekwon, Method Man and Ghostface Killah collaboration, Wu-Massacre. While this might not be the official artwork, I'm digging the comic book look, a style that perfectly fits the Wu aesthetic. I'm really looking forward to this release based on the art, as well as the couple of tracks I've heard. Pitchfork reports.

Wu Familia

Designer Logan Walters' Wu-Note Project is slick. He reimagined Wu-Tang album covers, giving them the feel of Blue Note vinyl sleeves. What makes these so great is the attention to detail. Faded edges, scratch marks and grainy images perfectly compliment the bold colors and dominant typefaces, making these covers much more than casual rehashes of a classic design. Look at them all.

Vivrant Thing

I came across this image on Flickr. People in the comments section complain about the HDR but I think the image has a very cartoon-y, dream-like appeal. (I'm not sure blogger exactly captures all of the vibrance so you should check out the Flickr page.) I don't know anything about the photographer, Andertho, but some of his other photos are equally amazing.

The Coldest Story Ever Told

The art direction/graphic design for Kanye's albums has always been really great, and the artwork for 808's & Heartbreak and it's first two singles are no different. With his college trilogy completed, Kanye has moved away from the Dropout Bear and opted to go a more basic route, using a deflated heart-shaped balloon, unobtrusive font and subtle color scheme. I'm not good at articulating my thoughts or feelings when evaluating art (even if they are just album covers) but I will say that there's something striking about the simplicity of the design.





Following the same theme is this new ad for the album release date. The restrained, beating (or dancing?) heart is brilliant, in a way.

So Necessary

If you haven't been to the house in the past several months, you probably don't know about our tricycle project. I'll save the details for a separate post but 1) it's probably my favorite thing in the house and 2) it's in definite need of this stylish, "indestructible" little trike... Ummm, seriously? A $2,500 tricycle? During a recession? Really?!?!

I stumbled on this blog Logólogos that makes logo equations. What is a logo equation? Check 'em out. I like logos in general so I thought this site was pretty creative. My favorites were Apple, Cisco, Nesquik and Wiki but all of them were pretty good.

I've seen this video on several blogs recently but I never got around to watching it until today. This is what happens when street art comes to life. Simply incredible.

Google Me Baby

Apparently Google has been having this competition to draw the Google logo. It was open to K-12th graders around the nation and now the regional finalists are up and open for public voting. The winner gets his or her drawing posted on the Google homepage on May 22, 2008.

Out of the 4 aged-based categories, I liked the K-3 and 10-12 grade drawings the best. It's cool seeing the work of kids who obviously haven't had any formal art schooling yet and I like looking at the more seasoned artists' work too.



I liked this K-3 entry. I admit part of it had to do with its awesome write up. For some of the other entries, it was obvious that a teacher or parent helped out with the blurb, if not wrote the entire thing. This one was clearly different:

"A Fish Swallowed a Google

What if a fish swallowed a Google? He might oogle, zoogle, or boogle. He might get full before the gle and eat only the Goo. Poogle! The Goo comes out. And the fish goes swimming about."

Remind me to start saying "poogle" more often...

I thought I'd post this one because it's really hard to draw hands. It's from the 10-12 category.



This one was one of my favorites of the 10-12 group, and from the contest in general. Maybe it's because I'm a nerd but I like the blueprint angle.

All of the finalists' logos are pretty good so you should check them out.

Just last week or so, I was telling someone that I've always wanted to make my own font and today I stumbled upon this video. As far as quality is concerned, I'm guessing my font would be somewhere in between Hand 1 and Hand 2 (no offense to either artist). Anyway, I thought this was pretty cool.

Wallpaper For The Soul

This is a pretty crazy story. I think it's cool how the building owners are treating the wall as a valuable piece of art and history. It wasn't long ago that something like this wouldn't have been the slightest bit important. And I don't know what's more amazing, the fact that the wall wasn't painted over in the first place or that the developers realized the wall was important enough to halt construction.

I Got Connected Like Tetris

I've been trying to keep this thing going but sometimes it's difficult. I was thinking of splitting this stuff up into a few different posts but it doesn't matter. Here's some stuff you can check out if you like:

The Arcade Fire did an interesting little interactive video for Neon Bible. It's kind of creepy looking at Win Butler's face for the entire song, but it's worth a couple viewings to see what kind of things you can do.
